Whether it is at the office, on the field, or in life, we all want that extra edge to help us perform at our best. Yet, it can get really tough out there, you and I may feel like we are constantly up against insurmountable obstacles. Oftentimes, you will also notice that if you do nothing to upgrade the way you are managing these times, everything can feel like it is much tougher and some may even experience a burn out.
I felt this way when I was working a corporate job, in charge of a business unit operating in 86 countries. The way I managed was using what I had learned in the DeRose Method. You may be wondering what is the DeRose Method? In a nutshell, it is a system that trains and improves your body, mind and emotions, together, at the same time. Its results help you not just survive, but thrive and achieve consistent high performance.
In this article I am going to share with you how the DeRose Method actually gives you the competitive edge you desire.
However, before we dive into how the DeRose Method can help, let us first address the barriers that may be hindering you from reaching your full potential. These barriers can be both internal and external, and it’s essential to understand them to move forward.
Internal barriers refer to aspects which are happening within you, while External barriers are more related to your physical body as well as the environment. We are going to explore a couple of the most common internal barriers and an external barrier and how the DeRose Method works to help you to overcome these barriers to achieving a competitive edge.
The first, and arguably the strongest internal barrier is stress. The pressure to perform at a high level, whether it’s at the workplace, on the playing field, or in life, can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being. Chronic stress can lead to burnout, fatigue, and a decrease in overall performance.
The second barrier is normally a bit more hidden, it is lack of focus. We are all constantly bombarded by distractions and demands all the time. The ability to cope with the barrage of demand and at the same time remain focused and on your tasks and your objective is incredibly challenging. Especially as most people may not even be aware that they have been distracted. The awareness of distraction is key here. This lack of focus can lead to a decrease in productivity and an increase in stress levels.
The external barrier we are going to look into is physical limitations, such as injuries or illnesses. We know that repetitive actions such as training and even sitting down all day at work will lead to both: sports have a high risk of injuries while work tends to develop more chronic issues, illnesses. Given the importance of your body at its best to help you to achieve your full potential, this is an area often overlooked and which we must address.
Now, the DeRose Method is composed of Techniques and Concepts. The Techniques are awesome to tackle all external barriers as well as providing the foundation for managing the internal barriers. For example, breathing techniques allow you to have at hand a tool to manage stress and be able to use the energy of this stress to increase your productivity (see previous article). In addition, the training of the techniques will result in you having a stronger, more flexible body and to experience more vitality. These elements together aid you to prevent the external barriers we have outlined above.
Finally, we come to the internal barrier of focus. This is one of the hardest to overcome as it requires both a shift in mindset as well as techniques to train your mind and brain to be able to concentrate promptly and to remain focused when you need it. For example, the Concepts help us to re-frame the barrier, instead of viewing the distractions as frustrations we can begin to view them as training to help us to return to the task at hand and put to the test the results of meditation techniques. When you combine the powerful effects of this new mindset with the development of your mental abilities, this barrier is much more easily overcome.
There is a lot more we could discuss about this topic, but I don’t want this article to be super long, so let us wrap up. The DeRose Method is a system that trains and improves the body, mind, and emotions to achieve consistent high performance and overcome internal and external barriers. Internal barriers such as stress and lack of focus can lead to decreased productivity and burnout, while external barriers such as physical limitations can hinder performance.
The DeRose Method’s Techniques and Concepts work together to address these barriers, with Techniques providing a foundation to manage internal barriers and Concepts helping to shift the mindset and train your mind and brain to improve focus.
